2016 Gravel Rouser Classic 3/17-3/20
Explore the back roads of Athens during the 13th Gravel Rouser Classic. This 4-day cycling event leads participants through a variety of winding roads and steep inclines and slopes that are perfect for the thrill seeker. There are even some trails ideal for the casual rider. Cyclists have the option to race in all the events or to pick and choose their favorites. The races taking place on March 17th and 18th are free, whereas the rides on the 19th and 20th require a small fee for participation.
St. Patrick’s Day 3/17
Dress in your very best green and take to the streets to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with the best of them! The restaurants and bars up and down Court Street are serving the very best in green beer and green beer-inspired cuisine. Look for an assortment of specials around town as Athens celebrates the luck of the Irish.
Calling all Barn Raisers to the Dairy Barn’s 20th Biennial Art Auction in an effort to raise funds for future expansion and support for the Dairy Barn’s ongoing school and camp programs that regularly take place. Dress up in your most Athenian formal wear for the event and come ready for an exciting time with friends and other community members. A silent auction, cash bar and music kick off at 6:00 pm, while the live auction will begin at 8:00 pm.
There’s no better way to welcome in spring than an expertly-guided tour through the Athens Asylum grounds. Attendees will be some of the first of the season to welcome the fresh buds growing on the trees throughout the property. This covers the entire outer loop of the Ridges Walking Trails so be sure to wear sturdy shoes that can handle a little mud. Tickets for the tour are $15 for those 12 and over. The event takes place in the Lindley Hall Lobby on Ohio University‘s campus and showcases the hard work and dedication of Ohio’s talented young learners as they put their work on display for all to see! The event will run from 6:30 – 7:30 pm on Monday night.
