4 Fabulous ways to celebrate the 4th in Athens County!


The Under the Elms Concert series concludes its concert season with music in celebration of Independence Day.


Athens County is the perfect destination for a fun-filled Fourth of July weekend. A parade, music, swimming and fireworks are just a few ways to make this Independence Day one to remember.

“Celebrate America” with the Under the Elms Concert Series | June 28, 7:00 p.m.
This free outdoor concert series on Ohio University’s College Green concludes with music in honor of Independence Day. The performance starts at 7:00 p.m., but get there early to spread out your picnic blanket and grab some food from a nearby food truck before listening to the “Communiversity Band.”

Fabulous Fourth Parade | July 4, 9:30 a.m.
Round up your family and friends and line the streets of Uptown Athens with flags and smiles for the Fourth of July Parade. After the parade, grab a bite to eat at one of Athens local restaurants!

Stay Cool at the Pool | July 3 & 4, 12:00 pm-7:00 p.m.
Grab the beach towels and sunblock and spend a leisurely afternoon at the Athens City Pool. Sunday, July 3, and Monday, July 4, guests are welcome at the pool for FREE!

Fireworks and Fun | July 3 at 10:00 pm and July 4 at 10:00 p.m.
What’s the Fourth of July without fireworks? Athens County has TWO evenings’ worth of these nighttime displays. On the 3rd, make your way to the far east end of East State Street for the Athens Fabulous Fourth Fireworks display.

For another grand finale, head to Hocking College in Nelsonville for Thunder in the Valley on the 4th at 10:00 p.m. This annual fireworks show draws a huge crowd from all over Athens County.
