A Guide to the 2017 Pawpaw Festival

Get ready for a weekend full of sweetness – pawpaws, tunes and entertainment! The 19th annual Ohio Pawpaw Festival kicks off Friday, September 15 and runs through Sunday, September 17. We’ve put together a guide to this year’s Pawpaw Festival to help you plan your trip to Lake Snowden in Albany, Ohio.

Eats and Drinks

Many people question what a pawpaw tastes like. Not only can you sample a fresh bite of the fruit right off the tree, but you can also try pawpaw in smoothies, ice cream, barbeque sauce, salsa and a host of baked goods. Several food vendors will be at the Festival serving up pawpaw-inspired cuisine, including local favorites Holy Guacamole, Burrito Buggy, Ali Baba’s, Hot Potato and Arcadian Acres. Plus, a dozen Ohio craft breweries will be offering pawpaw beer. If you haven’t found your favorite way to enjoy a pawpaw at the start of the Festival, you will by the time you leave!

What’s better than jamming out to some local and regional music while you munch on some pawpaw flavored foods? Festivals in Athens County always feature great local live music. Catch acts like The Come On Come Ons, Shouts & Whispers, and The Band Keesey. Don’t miss The Almighty Get Down at 10:30 p.m. on Saturday! Plan accordingly, there are many acts to choose from.

There’s no shortage of family-friendly activities at the Pawpaw festival. With bubbles floating around and inflatables across the fairgrounds, kids can find something they love. Other kid-friendly activities include an obstacle course, padded sword construction and pawpaw cooking for kids. There’s something for everyone!

Grab a seat and chill out by the scenic Lake Snowden. The Pawpaw Festival is a truly unique experience. While enjoying some local libations and delicious grub, you’ll be able to relax and feel your worries disappear. Bring your friends or make some of your own. Whatever you decide to do at the festival make sure you celebrate the fruit that brought it all together!
