Summer is THE time for family fun. When the days are sunny and the kids are out of school, the possibilities for fun for all ages in Athens County are endless! Adventure awaits around every corner.

An evening at the ball park
Break out the mitts and the Cracker Jacks, round up the family and head to a ball game this summer. The Southern Ohio Copperheads are one of 11 teams in the Great Lakes Collegiate Summer League, and they happen to play at Ohio University’s baseball field. Snap a group selfie with the team’s mascot, Homer, to always remember your trip to the ball park. Summertime, baseball and family… that’s a grand slam!

A season of geocaching
For a quest that lasts all summer long, try out geocaching. Everyone becomes treasure hunters, looking for hidden gems all over Athens County. Searching for caches and enjoying the excitement of finding one together is the perfect way to reconnect. Check out the Athens County Geotrail, and see how long it takes you to complete the trail puzzle.

An afternoon on the green
Whether you have youngsters, teenagers or just want a fun date idea, you’re never too old for a classic game of putt-putt. Athens’ Putt People First Miniature Golf Course has been recognized as one of the most unique courses in the nation. Looking for something more advanced? Check out one of Athens’ local golf courses.

A day at the arcade
We’re bound to have a few rainy days this season, but that doesn’t mean you have to cancel your family outing. When the weather is gloomy, head to the Fun Barn between Athens and Nelsonville for a day of movies, arcade games and more.

A weekend of outdoor adventures
Some of the best memories are made around a campfire. Pack a cooler, pitch a tent and take the family on a weekend camping trip. Athens County is full of campgrounds for every type of camper—from those who want to get away from it all to those who prefer to stay close to town. During the day, make a splash at a local lake or lace up your boots and go for a long hike on the many trails running through Athens.

A day at the fair
Summertime is county fair season, and the Athens County Fair is back for its 164th year. Held at the Athens County Fairgrounds, the fair is filled with rides, food and attractions everyone will love. The five day fair kicks off August 10, making it a perfect way to close out the summer.
