Four “Hidden Gems” You’ve Got to Try During Restaurant & Food Truck Week

As we’ve mentioned before, this week is THE most delicious time of the year to visit Athens. Not only is it Ohio Brew Week, but also it just happens to be 30 Mile Meal Restaurant & Food Truck Week. Here is our guide to four wonderful foodie destinations, only slightly off the beaten path, serving up fresh, local food during restaurant week (and year ‘round, too):

Fullbrooks Smoothie cropped

This berry smoothie is reason enough to head to Nelsonville.

Fullbrooks Café
These folks do real food, real local year round and regularly work with such local farms as Vest Berries, Shade River Organic Farms and Jackie O’s Bake Shop. You can find Fullbrooks right on the Historic Public Square in Nelsonville Monday-Friday 7:30am-5pm and on Saturdays 8am-5pm.

Westside Wingery blackened chicken taco

West side, best side? This blacked chicken taco says: YES.

West Side Wingery

Established by the confectionary wizards behind The Fluff bakery on Court Street, the West Side Wingery serves up comfort food like wings and tacos with unexpected twists. Their partnerships with local farms Starline Organics and Green Edge Gardens helps keep their menu diverse and fresh. West Side Wingery is located at 9 N. Shafer Street in Athens, Monday-Saturday, 4pm-9pm.

Lui Lui

Run, don’t walk to Station Street for Lui Lui’s Hunan tofu.

Lui Lui
An eclectic dining experience in Athens for 21 years, Lui Lui builds its Thai- and Italian-inspired menu with food from the Chesterhill Produce Auction, Snowville Creamery, Dexter Run Farms and Jackie O’s. Lui Lui has also created a heart-healthy CHIP (complete health improvement program) menu in conjunction with Live Healthy Appalachia. Lui Lui is just off of Union Street at 8 Station Street in Athens, Monday-Thursday 11:30am-9pm, Friday-Saturday 11:30am-9:30pm and Sunday 4pm-9pm.

Holy Guacamole Guac

Fresh guacamole. That is all there is.

Holy Guacamole Food Truck
Authentic Mexican food with a dash of Guatemalan influence, the Holy Guacamole food truck sources many of its ingredients locally through the Chesterhill Produce Auction. Though mobile, Holy Guacamole is typically stationed in The Plains on State Route 682, just behind the Valero Gas Station at 139 N. Plains Road.

With all that food in your belly, why not make it an overnighter and stay at one of our great hotels, B&B, cottages or cabins! Then find another great local restaurant for brunch. We’ll see you in Athens soon, and be sure to come hungry!
