Graduation is a time of transition. Bobcats will enter the halls of the Convo as students and will exit as alumni. It’s a time filled with excitement and possibility. It’s also one of the busier weekends in Athens County. Planning ahead means students and parents can focus on celebrating this moment and less on dealing with the details. Here’s what you need to know:
Spring commencement is held at the Convocation Center (lovingly referred to as the “Convo” by students and locals). The Graduate Commencement Ceremony is Friday, April 28, at 9:30am and the two undergraduate commencement ceremonies take place on Saturday, April 29, at 9:30am and at 2:00pm. The doors to the Convo open about 90 minutes before the start of each ceremony. Visit Ohio University’s commencement page for official details.
Like many buildings on Ohio University’s campus, the Convo doesn’t have a street address, but you can find directions to the campus here. As you get closer to the university, watch for and follow any traffic signs that may be posted.
Parking will be available for free at any of the dark green or purple lots on campus, which you can find on this map. If you find a spot at a metered space, you’ll still need to feed it with quarters and/or dimes. Keep in mind that you can only park at a meter for a maximum of two hours. The City of Athens offers more information on parking around the city here.
The hotels, B&Bs and cabins in Athens County fill up quickly. Check our lodging page for a place to rest your head in Athens. If you cannot find a vacancy in Athens, consider lodging in one of our surrounding counties.
