Ohio Brew Week is THE time to head to Athens to revel in the delights and flavors of Ohio’s craft brews (not to mention Athens’ own growing craft brew scene). With more than 30 bars in Athens alone, determining your tasting route can be almost as challenging as narrowing down a favorite beer. Enter our regional guide, which will help you wind your way through Brew Week easily and efficiently so you can spend more time tasting and less time traveling.
West Side: The Mellow Brew Crew
Home to Athens’ newest craft brewery, Little Fish Brewing Co., the west side of Athens is also home to the West End Ciderhouse, the Ohio University Inn, Athens Uncorked and many other local faves. Guest brewers include Elevator Brewing, Marietta Brewing, Land Grant and Brother’s Drake Meadery. Follow that up with some Miller’s Chicken and you’re in for a truly Athens-only experience. Get the complete listing of bars and brewers—plus a handy map of the area HERE.
South Court: Welcome to the Bobcat Bar Scene
Just steps away from Ohio University, South Court Street is the gateway to Athens’ nightlife. Brief detours down Union and Washington Streets to hit Jackie O’s and Restaurant Salaam provide an even larger array of restaurants ready and willing to fill your aching and hungry stomachs. Pace yourself because a walk up South Court Street only leads you to North Court and that’s when the nightlife really heats up. South Court is your destination if you’re looking for Mt. Carmel Brewing Company, MadTree Brewing, Fat Head’s Brewery and MANY more. Plan your route HERE.
North Court: An Ohio Brew Week Hop Spot
Arguably the heart of Court Street, North Court is where you’ll find such Uptown institutions as Tony’s, Pawpurrs, The Pub and The Pigskin, not to mention serious foodie faves like Casa Nueva and Fluff Bakery. Head to this area of Court Street if you’re craving Rhinegeist, Rockmill Brewery, Christian Moerlein, and Great Lakes Brewing, just to name a few. Check out all your favorite bars and brewers HERE.
East Side: A Microbrew Lover’s Delight
Full of a growing number of restaurants like The Village Bakery and Shade on the Canal, the East Side is also a home to great local markets like The Farmacy, Busy Day Market and the Undercover Market. You’ll also find Jackie O’s Taproom as well as the following brewers: Devils Kettle (who also has a microbrewery on Columbus Road), Buckeye Lake Brewery, Portsmouth Brewing, Thirsty Dog Brewing and more. We’ve mapped the way for you HERE.
Why not stay for a couple of days so you can sample each of these regions? Be sure to check out our Ohio Brew Week packages and as always, enjoy your time here responsibly. Travel safely and we’ll see you in Athens soon!
