Athens CASA is a court-based, non-profit organization that recruits and trains community volunteers to serve as Court Appointed Special Advocates in cases where children come to the attention of Juvenile Court because of abuse or neglect.
Children that are represented by a CASA are likely to do better in school, experience fewer placement moves and spend on average 7.5 months less time in foster care. Athens CASA is always accepting applications to serve. In order to become a sworn-in volunteer, applicants must be 21 years old, pass a background check,  complete the provided pre-service training and commit to at least 1 year of service.
For community members who are not able to become Court Appointed Special Advocates, Athens CASA maintains a list of “extended family” to help out with special projects and events.
