Winter Educational Programs for Children

The Wayne National Forest is offering three new Wild Weekend Discovery programs this winter at the Wayne National Forest Headquarters & Athens Ranger Station. All programs are designed for children ages preschool to 5th grade and run from 10 to 11 a.m. on a Saturday.

Become familiar with the owls who live in your backyard on Saturday, January 7, 2017. Investigate the habits of owls by dissecting real owl pellets! The lesson will be followed by a craft your child can take home.

Meet Smokey Bear and learn all about staying safe while having fun outdoors on Saturday, February 4, 2017. This program is a great way for children to learn important safety practices to use while hiking and camping on the Wayne National Forest. Children will get to put together their own survival packs to take home and get a chance to take a picture with Smokey!

Learn all about the importance of preserving habitat and efforts on the Wayne National Forest to protect local wildlife on Saturday, March 4, 2017. Children will get to make their own contribution to wildlife habitat by making their very own birdhouses to take home!

Space is limited to 20 seats per session, pre-register by calling (740) 753-0542.
