She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Ohio University in Wildlife and Conservation Biology. Most recently, her academic interests include the ways in which land use decisions affect ecological health in urban environments. She lives in Millfield, Ohio with her husband and two children. Jasmine will share her research explores the history of the Hocking River’s channelization and the subsequent effects of mowing management on the plants and pollinators of the river’s riparian zone through Athens, Ohio. The project compares the plants and pollinators present at sites representing different successional stages according to when they were last mown and estimates how much, if any, roughness is added to the channel with each stage. Ultimately, the project seeks to answer whether a partial restoration of the channelized river’s riparian zone would be possible without jeopardizing flood protection. |
