Stuart’s Opera House welcomes Peruvian dance group ADU to Nelsonville for an evening of performance on Wednesday, September 23rd at 7:00pm!

This is a free show! ADU will be artists-in-residence in Nelsonville and Athens County from September 22-26 and will be working with area K-12 students, Ohio University dance students, and Factory Street Dance Studio and will be conducting workshops and performances throughout Athens County!

This event at Stuart’s is a full performance and is FREE and open to the public, no tickets are needed.

ADU is a non profit arts group from Peru. Their original piece “Sigo Siendo” addresses themes of maintaining cultural identity under pressure of assimilation and revaluing ancient traditions in a modern world. It is an exciting, athletic fusion of Peruvian dance. In addition to presenting the 50 minute original work, “Sigo Siendo” the members ofADU are interested in leading workshops in percussion, charango, traditional wind instruments and of course dance! Director Antonio Vilchez is a national champion and professor in dance.

As a choreographer, actor, afroperuvian dancer and percussionist he has represented Peru in festivals in Chile, France, Greece, Germany, Spain, Mexico, Canada and the United States.
