All Things Brick: Thursday, Nov. 19th at 6:00pm
The Athens County Historical Society and Museum will present a program on all things brick on Thursday evening, November 19th at 6pm at 65 North Court Street in Athens.
Ed Newman, a brick collector and brick enthusiast will be presenting about the history of brick making and brick collecting.
Newman will discuss historical bricks in SE Ohio and beyond. There are sidewalk and street pavers, refractory and building brick, Ornamental brick and a variety of other ceramic products produced en mass in Ohio and around the country yet there is limited information about this once widespread economic part of our history. This physical and oral history and their remnants has been gradually disappearing.
Newman is a brick collector and a longtime member of the I.B.C.A (International Brick Collectors Association) This small group of people collect bricks, swap bricks, and compile brick history. Newman’s presentation will dabble in brick history locally and elsewhere and talk about various points of interest regarding bricks, brick collecting and brick history. Ed is also working with others in Athens County to highlight the historical remnants of the vast brick industry that still exist in Athens City and County.
