For the first time ever the Columbus Symphony will perform on the Stuart’s Opera House stage! The Columbus Symphony intends to collaborate with Stuart’s Opera House to present an orchestral concert and a series of educational outreach events in Nelsonville and the surrounding communities. This performance will be conducted by the acclaimed Music Director of the Columbus Symphony, Rossen Milanov and will feature an orchestra of 42 including strings, flutes, oboes, clarinets, bassoons, horns, trumpets, and timpani. The program will be a combination of light classics and pops, creating an approachable event for all members of the community, including works from Beethoven, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Strauss, and Copland. This event is sponsored in part by Ohio Arts Council and Ohio University Performing Arts & Concert Series.
Founded in 1951, the Columbus Symphony is the longest-running, professional symphony in central Ohio. Through an array of innovative artistic, educational, and community outreach programming, the Columbus Symphony is reaching an expanding, more diverse audience each year. This season, the Columbus Symphony will share classical music with more than 175,000 people in central Ohio through concerts, radio broadcasts, and special programming. For more information, visit www.columbussymphony.com.
Educational activities will involve Columbus Symphony musicians visiting schools and community venues. The musicians will visit both Amesville and Coolville Elementaries on March 18, 2019 and Nelsonville-York City Schools will be invited to the Opera House on March 19, 2019. At schools, musicians will coach students in band and orchestra programs, and give demonstrations to elementary classes.
