Memorial Day Service

The 70th Annual Gilham-Frank VFW Memorial Day Service is set for Monday may 30th beginning at 10am. The Memorial Service will support heritage and veterans education efforts of VFW Post 8804 and the Waterloo Township Fire DepartmentThe event is part of this year’s 70th annual organized celebration in Athens County’s community of New Marshfield involving combat veterans and families. The annual memorial Day Service offers many sources of entrainment including, Alexander High School marching Band, Charley & Celia Lewis, Matthew Griffin and Olivia Kimbell. In addition The sing Along Chicks will be dressed in period correct outfits. This years musical emphasis is from the World War II era. Many members of Gilham-Frank VFW Post 8804 and residents of Waterloo Township are direct decedents of the areas founding pioneer families. People since 1787 have gathered to bury their war dead in the township and have followed General Logan’s Order #11 established May 5, 1868, faithfully for 149 years. For the first time in 70 years Gilham-Frank Veterans of Foreign Wars against the enemies of the United States of America will have the Ohio Department of VFW’s Commander attending the Service. Commander Chris Haynes will represent the VFW and is also the guest speaker. In addition to Haynes Tom Smith Commander of the American Veterans, (Amvets) will also be involved with the sacred veterans grave site ceremony. The Gilham-Frank Post 8804 is a veterans service organization working to educate, support, and share resources primarily amongst veterans that served in combat.
