Enjoy a summertime walk through the prairie habitats on AOA’s Demonstration Site while viewing and learning about butterflies and their habitat needs.
Explore the tall grass prairies and enjoy the summertime butterflies at the beautiful AOA Conservation Demonstration Site in the Hocking Hills. Enjoy a naturalist-led stroll through the prairies along mown paths during the peak of the wildflowers and observe the butterflies, birds and various other inhabitants of a tall grass ecosystem. We will experience how habitat restoration and enlightened management can enhance butterflies, and learn how important it is to conserve corridors to maintain natural pollinator populations.
Learn about butterflies and their habitats from two friends of AOA who will lead the walk: Cheryl Harner and Jim Davidson. Cheryl is a life-long chaser of butterflies, a co-founder of Flora-Quest, and a member of the Ohio Lepidopterist Association. She helps to promote conservation of land and biodiversity though eco-tourism and educational programs. Jim Davidson is a member of the Ohio Lepidopterist Association and the Columbus Audubon Society. He is a noted Ohio butterfly expert and co-founder of AOA.
