Stuart’s Fright Night

Stuart’s Opera House will host our first ever FRIGHT NIGHT on Final Friday, October 30th! We will host a terrifyingly fun evening at Stuart’s to celebrate the Halloween season during October Final Fridays. In addition to a new art opening from Athens artist Emily Beveridge, Stuart’s will host a FREE night of spooky and scary activities! Starting at 6:00pm join us for an old-timey Halloween Party with face painting, mask making, bobbing for apples, and tarot card readings from Horus Moonshine. At 6:30pm, Ken Bowald will lead a Cemetery Walk to the historic Fort Street Cemetery complete with ghost stories and more. From 7:00pm-9:00pm, the Stuart’s stage will be taken over by a Costume Contest complete with several categories, judges, and big cash prizes (info below), followed by an hour of Ghost Stories in the Opera House. And then to finish the night off right we host a FREE screening of the classic thriller The Shining at 10:00pm! Mark your calendars and see you at Fright Night!

This event is sponsored by 1st Choice Cabin Rentals, Rocky Brands, Nelsonville Area Chamber of Commerce, and McDonalds of Nelsonville

IF you are looking for something to do on THURSDAY, OCTOBER 29th, head on over to The Athena Cinema in Athens for a special screening of THE CABINET OF DR. CALIGARI (released in 1920) defined what it meant to be a horror movie. At a carnival in Germany, Francis (Friedrich Feher) and his friend Alan (Rudolf Lettinger) encounter the crazed Dr. Caligari (Werner Krauss). The men see Caligari showing off his somnambulist, Cesare (Conrad Veidt), a hypnotized man who the doctor claims can see into the future. Shockingly, Cesare then predicts Alan’s death, and by morning his chilling prophecy has come true — making Cesare the prime suspect. However, is Cesare guilty, or is the doctor controlling him? The Athena Cinema will show THE CABINET OF DR. CALIGARI on Oct. 29 at 9:00, with live music performed by the NOBROW.collective (score by Aaron Michael Butler, on of our Stuart’s Afterschool instructors). It’s the perfect movie to see just before Halloween, and tickets are free!
