Tour of Historic Bars and Buildings of Court Street
In what establishment did you or your parents spend the majority of time studying while at Ohio University? Take a tour of the Historic Bars and Buildings of Court Street in Athens. Learn about the evolution of businesses, pubs and eateries in uptown Athens. Local historian, Cyrus Moore, will lead walking tours of Court Street and discuss the architecture and heritage of the many historic structures and recall their changing uses over time. Taverns, theaters, restaurants, and hardware stores joined clothing stores, attorney’s offices and public buildings in downtown Athens. Take a literal walk down memory lane and see where the shops and saloons of yesteryear hung their shingles.
Tours begin at the Athens County Historical Society and Museum, 65 North Court Street, at 1pm and 4pm on Friday, October 9th. Space on the tours is limited. To reserve your place on the tour call the museum and ask for Eli at 740-592-2280. There is a $15 fee per person.
