The Dairy Barn Arts Center is pleased to announce the inaugural biennial exhibition WideOpen: Excellence in Photography, an international photography exhibition presented by SONY Corporation, Ohio University School of Visual Communication, Ohio University School of Fine Arts and the Dairy Barn Arts Center.

Jurors for the exhibition are Molly Roberts, Brook Shaden, and Brian Smith – three of the finest photographers and editors in the photography world today. Roughly 85 works considered to be the best of contemporary photography will be chosen for the exhibition, which will display at the Dairy Barn Arts Center from September 29- November 18, 2018. The exhibition will then travel to the SONY Gallery in New York, New York with other tour locations to be announced.

“We are very excited about this exhibition taking root in our community – the home of some of the best photographers in the country,” said Terry Eiler, Chair of the WideOpen Committee of the Dairy Barn Arts Center and former director of the Ohio University School of Visual Communications. “This exhibition celebrates the long history of development of photography as we know today.”

The Barn is thrilled to have SONY Corporation as a major sponsor for this exhibition. SONY Corporation, along with SONY Universe is partnering with the Barn to spread the word about the exhibition and call for entries. They will also be donating a SONY camera and lens as a major prize, along with travel, cash and artist residency prizes.

“The main goal of this exhibition is to recognize those photographers who are demonstrating their techniques, patience and knowledge to share with the public the human condition, landscapes, art and more,” said Jane Forrest Redfern, Executive Director of the Dairy Barn Arts Center. “We believe WideOpen will also be a tremendous way for the Athens Community to celebrate and highlight our rich history in photography.”

WideOpen submissions open April 15, 2018 and close on June 27, 2018. Photographers will be able to submit up to three works for consideration digitally via www.wideopendairybarn.artcall.org. The Barn will be offering submission discounts for students and Dairy Barn members. Photographers selected for the exhibition will be eligible to win over $10,000 in prizes and cash awards, including a Travel Award, an Artist Residency Award, an Ohio University Alumni Award and a Residency Award and many more.
