The Church of Earth Healing has provided teaching, healing and spiritual counseling within a shamanic framework in Athens County, Ohio since 1990, under the guidance of its founding ministers.

Crow Swimsaway, PhD, and Bekki Shining Bearheart, LMT, are shamanic healers, teachers, and spiritual counselors who have been teaching shamanism together since 1982. They offer energy healing and bodywork, shamanic journeying, ally retrieval, shamanic extraction, soul retrieval, and psychopomp work. They provide shamanic divination and astrology and tarot consultations as a source of guidance. As licensed ministers, they perform legal weddings (handfasting), as well as other ceremonies and rituals based in pagan and shamanic traditions.

The Helen Mauck Galbreath Memorial Chapel is a gift of alumnus John Galbreath in memory of his first wife, whom he met while they were students at the university. Campus legend holds that it marks the spot where the two first kissed.

The chapel is used by people of all faiths for personal prayer and meditation. It is also used for memorial services, bar mitzvah, weddings, receptions, and christenings. Cultural events such as organ concerts, musical programs, poetry readings, lectures, religious drama, liturgical dance, and exhibitions of religious art are held there. Many fraternities and sororities choose it for formal initiation ceremonies and receptions. The chapel has a seating capacity of 150.

Built in 1957, the Modern Colonial Revival chapel has an unusual shape that was imposed by its location on the green. The spire, topped with a brass weather vane, is modeled after that of the portico of Nash’s All Souls Church in London.

Located at the intersection of College and Church Streets, in the heart of Athens and Ohio University, the congregation of First United Methodist Church seeks to serve their community and the world in the spirit of Christ.

They offer programs for all ages, which include Sunday school classes and study groups, choirs, puppets, and global and local mission outreach. Growing Tree Preschool provides an early childhood education rooted in a caring Christian atmosphere. The Stephen Ministry is a group of people within the congregation who are trained to listen and help others sort through their feelings. These folks are caring Christian friends who can help others through difficult times.

Free parking is available Sundays in the City Parking Garage located across the street.
