Ash Cave is the lowest part of the Hocking Hills and is by far the most outstanding sight in the area. Ash Cave is the most impressive recessive cave in Ohio. It is shaped like a horseshoe and spans over 100 feet. Many say this site is the most awe-inspiring in the Hocking Hills. Ash Cave has been historically used as a place of worship by the Shawnee and other Indian tribes. They also used the cave as temporary shelter and meeting space.
You can enter this area of the Hocking Hills by Route 56 or by taking the Grandma Gatewood Trail from Old Man’s Cave.
