Athens County’s winding roads are a biker’s dream. In fact, American Motorcyclist calls Southeast Ohio “one of the best, most accessible places to ride twisty roads in the country.”
With nothing but the open road before them, bikers tour the area all year long. There’s nothing quite like riding on a ridge top and looking over your shoulder to catch a breathtaking sunset. And after a long day of riding there’s always time for a stop at the Smiling Skull Saloon on West Union, a long-time biker hang out. Click here to order an Athens County map.
With over 121 miles of ATV and off-highway motorcycle trails, Wayne National Forest is the most popular site for ATV riding in Athens County. Motorized trails are open from April 15th to December 15th.
The Monday Creek ORV Trails in the Athens County section of the Wayne, just north of Nelsonville, offer over 70 miles of trails for ATV riding, hiking, or mountain biking. Order a map here.
Seasonal, three-day, and daily permits are only $45, $24, and $12 respectively. Click here for a list of participating permit vendors in Southeast Ohio.
