This year, Ohio Brew Week celebrates its 10th anniversary and has grown to a nine-day celebration of all things beer. Each of those days is jam-packed with incredible events and special opportunities for you to sample your favorite beers (or even find a new favorite). But! If there’s only one day to pick to head to Athens, here are four good reasons why you might want to make Tuesday, July 14, the day.
1) Athens Beer Trail Brewery Tour
Enjoy behind-the-scenes tours of the three craft breweries that make up the Athens Beer Trail. The tour kicks off at Jackie O’s Taproom, where you’ll see their barrel-aged brew process up close. Next head to the newly-opened Little Fish for some farmhouse ales before finishing up the tour at Devil’s Kettle’s high-tech brewhouse. Don’t worry, you’ll have lots of time to try a sample or two before heading to the next stop.
When: Tuesday, July 14, starting at 1pm
Where: Jackie O’s, 25 Campbell Street (at 1pm); Little Fish, 8675 Armitage Road (2:30pm); Devil’s Kettle, 97 Columbus Road (4pm)
2) Athens Patio Tour
Dine on Athens finest patios including The Village Bakery, Jackie O’s Taproom, West End Ciderhouse, Purple Chopstix and Jackie O’s Brew Pub. The Athens Patio Tour will be an intimate experience (only 25 seats are available) that pairs local food with craft beers and spirits. In addition to these Athens favorites, Westside Wingery and Fluff Bakery will be serving up delicious food and desserts at the Ciderhouse and at Jackie O’s Brew Pub. And did we mention that transportation is included!
When: July 14, 4:00pm-8:15pm. Tickets are $100 a person and includes transportation.
Where: Guests will start at The Village Bakery. Final transport will return you to your cars there.
3) 30 Mile Meal Brews and Que
Any cicerone (that’s a person who has special training in pairing beer with food) will tell you that there’s a beer for just about any type of food. Still, there’s something special about the way a cold beer quenches the sweet, spicy tang of bbq sauce. The 30 Mile Meal Brews and Que will have plenty of both: mouth-watering bbq from Kiser’s Barbeque and icy beers from Devil’s Kettle and Little Fish Brewing. And because it’s a 30 Mile Meal event, you know you’re in for a bounty of hearty local fare.
When: Tuesday, July 14, 6pm-8pm, tickets are $20 and can be purchased here.
Where: The Eclipse Company Store, 11309 Jackson Drive, The Plains, Ohio.
4) It’s 30 Mile Meal Day during Restaurant & Food Truck Week!
July is 30 Mile Meal Month, which is Athens’ month-long celebration of the food produced within a 30-mile radius of Athens County. During Restaurant & Food Truck Week, you’ll find a variety of meal specials and deals highlighting the county’s local food scene. It truly is the most delicious time to visit Athens.
